So, you may be wondering why you’re here. Or, more specifically, why WE are here. And what this is all about. Fierce Gear? Is that a thing?
Who are we?
“Fierce Gear” is the brainchild of elite obstacle course racer Katie Purcell (a.k.a. “Pretty Fierce Spartan).
Why are we here?
After being on the OCR scene for a couple of years, Katie noticed there was a marked lack of information flow where training, race prep, and gear are concerned. Being a (relatively) new sport, OCR gear and equipment is not necessarily something we have grown up using or being exposed to, and the stuff – which can be both highly specialized and highly expensive – is not always easily accessible in traditional stores. While the Internet is a great resource to “get your feet wet,” it shouldn’t necessarily be the go-to strategy to figure out what shoes to buy by asking strangers on Facebook for advice. Katie thought to herself: there must be a better way! While there were a few online retailers of OCR gear and apparel, their depth and breadth of offerings left something to be desired and she didn’t feel there was enough unbiased information/reviews to help people really find what they needed that would be appropriate to help them get where they wanted to go.
What’s the goal?
Fierce Gear will never try to sell you stuff that isn’t right for you. We will strive to give the best and most unbiased opinions we can, and to help get you what you need. We aim to cater to the elite athlete looking to gear up for race day or prepare for a killer WOD, but also welcome all athletes regardless of where they are on their fitness journey.
Where are we going?
Eventually, Fierce Gear is looking to be a virtual one-stop shop with a killer selection of everything an athlete needs from training equipment and race prep, to race day nutrition and gear, to rest and recovery aids. We will have offerings available for the OCR athlete and also overlapping “tough fitness” sports including CrossFit, rock climbing, trail running, etc. We are also working to compile an extensive “reviews” section – based both on professional, third-party reviews by trusted sources as well as independent reviews by shoppers like you who will give you the scoop on what works for them! In this way, Fierce Gear shoppers will have access to the best of both worlds and never again have to rely on a “What shoes should I get?” post on Facebook. It will take awhile to get there, but stay tuned because there are a LOT of exciting things in the pipeline.
We have a few exciting things on deck that we will be rolling out in the next few months, and it is only going to get better from there. With Fierce Gear the term “what you see is what you get” doesn’t really apply, as we are continuing to build out more for you every day. We don’t want to give too much away, but some ideas for what will be coming include:
- Cool social features to help racers connect with each other and spread information
- A blog section with both reviews (which can be biased as they are built on opinions), and unbiased informational articles (the nuts and bolts of what makes a company and what their message is)
- More products! We can’t be a one-stop-shop unless we have everything … and we plan to expand our product offerings every few months as our brand grows
