Who Is Honey Stinger?

Honey Stinger is a company that makes tasty sports nutrition products and healthy snacks, primarily for training or race day. They are committed to using wholesome, natural and non-GMO ingredients whenever possible, and honey is a base ingredient for all of their products.

“Sting Or Bee Stung.”

…Is Honey Stinger’s catchphrase. It’s kind of their version of “dog eat dog” or “Run the day: don’t let the day run you.” Sometimes when you train/race you crush it (or “sting”) and other times…well…you get stung. We all have days like that when we just don’t feel we are performing at our best. Honey Stinger’s mission is to help you “sting” more by being properly prepared with great fuel, allowing you to accomplish more than you ever thought possible!

In 1954, forward-thinking beekeepers Ralph and Luella Gamber created the EN-R-G bar as an alternative to sugary candy bars. They decided on honey as one of the main ingredients because it was healthier and readily available to them. They also developed packets of honey which they called “Quick Energy” to give to athletes at Franklin and Marshall College to give them a quick burst of energy, but there was not much of a market for their product and so the project was put on the backburner.

Fast forward to 2002: EN-R-G Foods, Inc. was re-established in its current home of Steamboat Springs, Colorado by the next generation(s) of Gambers along with fellow honey-industry veterans Bob Stahl and Jim Miller. Their goal is now, as it always has been, to provide great-tasting honey-based energy foods made with natural ingredients.

Honey Stinger Trivia

Did you know: The iconic “Honey Bear” honey container was actually thought up at the Gamber dinner table! The first honey bear was designed, manufactured, and sold in 1957 by the Gambers themselves. So you may have been more familiar with the Honey Stinger family than you realized!

Wholesome Ingredients

As stated above, Honey Stinger’s goals include being equally committed to taste and quality, which includes natural (e.g., organic and non-GMO) honey-based products, whenever possible. Their commitment to “real ingredients” that are natural and wholesome is in an effort to optimize the performance of you, the athlete! The easier an ingredient is to break down, the faster it can be absorbed and utilized to get you on your way to your best training session/race day.

Why Honey?

As their name might suggest, honey is one of the key ingredients of Honey Stinger products which is great for athletes: honey is rich in the carbohydrates we need, and also delicious!

Honey is a natural form of energy and antioxidants. It is considered a “mixture” of carbohydrates because it contains both fructose and glucose, which is great news because tests have proven that a mixture of carbohydrates (vs. just one) is better for the body in preventing fatigue and improving performance. Fructose and glucose work together to be quickly and easily absorbed and digested, but because honey also has a low glycemic index it allows sugar levels to remain constant and provides a sustained energy boost so you don’t have to worry about that sugar high/crash. Guess this is why Honey Stinger decided to make honey the main carbohydrate source for all of their products!

What’s the deal with “True Source Honey”?

All Honey Stinger products use True Source Honey: an organization made of a collection of honey companies and importers committed to calling attention to the issue of illegally sourced honey, protecting consumers, and support of legal/ethical honey sourcing and the U.S. honey sector. Honey Stinger believes in maintaining trust and authenticity with their customers, and proudly supports the True Source organization.

What Is The Recommended Use?

Honey Stinger recommends the organic energy chews and organic energy gels are most effective before or during physical activity.

Consume 5-10 minutes before activity. When consumed before activity, energy is immediately released into the body and is absorbed into the system at a steady rate throughout exercise.

Consume every 45 minutes – 1 hour for energy maintenance. When consumed during activity, honey helps muscles remain nourished longer through a steady release of energy, delaying fatigue.
